Paneherd vs Claude Code agent view
Agent view (claude agents) is a single screen in Claude Code, in research preview, that lists your background sessions and which of them need input. Paneherd is a VS Code and Cursor extension that runs agent CLIs as terminals in a grid.
Short answer: Agent view is Claude Code's own screen for background sessions and is the right tool if you only use Claude Code and are happy in the terminal. Paneherd is for running several agents, including Codex, Copilot, Cursor and Gemini, as a grid inside VS Code or Cursor, with one inbox for permission prompts.
| Claude Code agent view | Paneherd | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Your terminal (claude agents) | Inside VS Code or Cursor, as editor terminals |
| Agents | Claude Code only | Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, Cursor and Gemini CLIs |
| Session states | Working, needs input, idle, completed, failed, stopped | Working, waiting, finished, from the agents' hook events (Claude Code, Codex, Copilot) |
| Answering a permission prompt | Attach to the session to answer; a reply from the peek panel waits in the queue | One inbox for all Claude Code sessions with Allow, Always and Deny (Pro) |
| Keeping sessions apart | Moves a session into its own worktree when it starts editing | No isolation of its own; warns before two sessions edit one file (Pro) and works with worktrees you create |
| After the work | Commits and pushes the branch and may open a draft PR; never merges | Leaves it to you |
| Background running | A supervisor keeps sessions alive after you close the view | Sessions are terminals in the editor; they survive Reload Window |
| Usage | Each session uses your subscription quota | Same quota; shows the limits and each pane's approximate share |
| Phone | Not part of agent view | Phone remote (web page, encrypted) |
| Price | Included with Claude Code | Free to 4 panes; Pro is a one-time purchase |
Where Claude Code agent view is the better choice
- You only use Claude Code and like working in the terminal.
- You want sessions to keep running in the background after you close everything.
- You want each session moved into a worktree automatically, with the branch pushed for you.
Where Paneherd is the better choice
- You also run Codex, Copilot, Cursor or Gemini and want them in the same view.
- You work in VS Code or Cursor and want sessions beside your code.
- You want to answer permission prompts from every session in one place, or from your phone.
- You want to send one prompt to several sessions.
Paneherd is not for you if
- You use Claude Code alone in a terminal and agent view already covers it.
- You want branches created, pushed and PRs opened for you.
- You do not use VS Code or Cursor.
Can you use both?
Often yes. Paneherd runs the CLIs you already have, so it can sit next to Claude Code agent view rather than replace it. See also the full comparison.
