An AI agent dashboard for developers: what it should show
A dashboard for coding agents answers one question: which agent needs me right now? Beyond that it should show what is running, what is waiting for approval, and how much of your plan is left. Here is what to look for and what is available.
What it should show
- Status per agent: working, waiting for you, finished. Not "a terminal had output".
- A count and a jump: how many need you, and one action to reach the next.
- Pending approvals: the command or file an agent wants to touch, answerable without switching windows.
- Usage limits: the five-hour and weekly windows with reset times, per plan. See Claude Code's usage limit and Codex's.
- Problems: an agent looping on a failing call or stalled.
Where status comes from
A dashboard that guesses from terminal output is unreliable. The dependable source is the agent's own hooks, commands the CLI runs at events such as "prompt submitted" or "turn finished". Claude Code, Codex and Copilot CLI report those; in our tests the Cursor CLI's prompt and end-of-turn hooks did not fire in the terminal, so no tool can show its state reliably. Options
- Claude Code's agent view and
/usage. Status and limits for Claude sessions only. - The free Usage Meter. Not a full dashboard: just Claude Code's and Codex's limits in the VS Code status bar.
- Paneherd. A sidebar in VS Code and Cursor listing every pane with its status from the agents' hook events, a count of panes waiting with a jump to the next, usage limits per agent, loop and stall alarms, and a Claude Code permission inbox (Pro).
- Separate apps and terminals. See the tools compared.
From your phone
Paneherd's phone remote is a web page with no app to install: scan a QR code from VS Code and your phone shows every pane's status, reads a Claude Code or Codex pane's conversation, and sends prompts; with Pro it also answers Claude Code permission prompts. Messages are end-to-end encrypted. See controlling Claude Code and Codex from your phone.

Does a dashboard send my code anywhere?
Paneherd is local: hooks report to a server inside the editor on 127.0.0.1, with no account or telemetry. See privacy.
